Claudia Teran serves as Executive Vice President and Corporate General Counsel for Fox Corporation, leading the legal strategy for the Company’s sports and entertainment assets. In this role, which she assumed in June 2019, Ms. Teran also oversees legal and business affairs for many functional areas, including: corporate, distribution, technology, operational M&A, privacy, business development, music, and advertising sales.
Ms. Teran continues to also lead the FOX Sports’ business and legal affairs organization, which she has overseen since 2014. Her team is responsible for the negotiation and acquisition of media rights for U.S. professional leagues and teams, including the NFL, MLB, and WWE, as well as collegiate conferences and international sports properties. Additionally, Ms. Teran manages negotiation and legal oversight of operational areas such as FOX Sports’ production, programming, marketing, talent and digital.
Before the March 2019 spin off of Fox Corporation (FOX) by 21st Century Fox and the establishment of FOX as a standalone public company, Ms. Teran served as Executive Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for Fox Networks Group (FNG), which included Fox Broadcasting Company, FX Networks, FOX Sports Media Group, Fox Sports Regional Sports Networks, Fox Digital Media, and National Geographic Partners, as well as networks and operations in Europe, Asia and Latin America. In this role, Ms. Teran assisted in leading the legal group responsible for all business and legal matters pertaining to FNG’s cable and broadcast network distribution, digital new media, and corporate/business development.
Ms. Teran provides creative solutions to operational and strategic growth issues in rapidly evolving areas in the media business. She played a pivotal role in the deal to form FOX Bet, FOX Sports’ first-of-its kind national media and sports wagering partnership with The Stars Group.
Ms. Teran is experienced in navigating complex matters, including those arising in international markets with diverse political challenges. While at FNG, Ms. Teran advised on the expansion within FOX Sports’ international investments, including acquisitions in Latin America, the launch of FOX Sports Brazil, and the acquisition in Asia of ESPN/STAR Sports.
Prior to joining FOX, Ms. Teran was a transactional attorney at Sidley and Austin, where she worked on behalf of private and public entities addressing a variety of business dealings and regulatory issues.
Ms. Teran is routinely recognized as a leader in the sports, media and legal fields. In 2019, the Los Angeles Business Journal named Ms. Teran one of the “Leaders in the Law” General Counsel of the Year. The same year, she was honored by Adweek as one of its Most Powerful Women in Sports and received an NYU Law Alumni achievement award. She was previously selected to receive such honors as the 2016 WISE (Women in Sports and Events) Los Angeles Women of Inspiration Award, as well as to be a member of Multichannel News and Broadcasting and Cable Magazine’s 2015 class of “Wonder Women,” which honors a select group of accomplished and influential women within the television industry. Ms. Teran is also routinely included in Cablefax’s annual rankings of the Most Influential Minorities in Cable and Most Powerful Women in Cable.
Ms. Teran, who lives in Los Angeles, earned her bachelor’s degree from the University of California at Berkeley and a law degree from New York University School of Law.
